Runoffs H Production

Great Job Greg! Great use of the rain line. - Peter

Hey, did you notice the squirrel that ran across track in front of you (at around corner 11A)?

I was really impressed by Ron Bartell's start. His banzai through the pack at the start was beautiful. Can't imagine hacking my way through all those behemoth cars in the rain, no less, with bad visibility, in an open, rear drive car.

Congrats, Greg! Tom and I were already on our way home by then...halfway thru Ohio at race time. I was watching the live timing on my blackberry, giving Tom the play-by-play, lamenting the fact that I couldn't see the damn fine print and pounding on the "refresh" button. Nicely done!

In-car video part 1 is up on You-tube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ye8GduzvJoo

So to review, Greg made a pass at THE KINK (in the wet) on the first lap, and THEN passes on the outside of the carousel for the lead?????? Are you kidding me....... :applause: :applause: :applause:

Very very impressive for a first lap kink pass in the wet! I guess this might explain the custom seat and overlong submarine belt!

Congrats Greg on a great drive in adverse conditions - you certainly made the wet line work for you. As always, thanks for sharing your video - great to watch.

Dick G- nice drive to bring it home for the silver. Great videos, thanks for sharing.

The Yaris captures the BRONZE! Jason has worked hard these last two years to find some speed in the beast. As a multi time autocross cahmp, Jason can drive it too. Nice finish to the season with a podium - great job, making us left coasters proud.

Ron Bartell held up the British banner for the early laps - what caused him to slow. I didn't get to see the Speedcasttv coverage - so if it was shown there I missed it.

What happened to Chris Albin? - figured the weather was going to pay off for him too.

Greg and I went around Ron at the same time through 6. Greg inside and me outside. 3 wide through 6 in the rain!! Would love to see some pics of that.

Rumor had it that Chris had an ignition problem.

I also would like to draw attention to the overall H-Prod class finish, arguably the most competitive rain race of the weekend. 1st-5th separated at the line by only 12 seconds.

Good job all, especially Jason who should have crashed on lap 5 with the Yaris 45 degrees sideways in the carosel for an >extended< period of time.... Rogerson and I were crossing our fingers that you could re-stick it... lol.

Greg,
Awesome drive, congratulations on your WIN.
After all of the years watching your Honda's tail lights from my sprite, I knew you had in you.
GREAT DRIVE

Also, very cool of Mike Moser to be there for the podium ceremony with handshakes and hugs. I know it's not easy for guys in the race to be there, but pretty classy move by the pole sitter.

Dick, No way to check now but I am pretty sure the 3 of you going over the hill into 6 from the turn 5 crane cam will make the final broadcast version.

I am just so impressed with the whole podium. Dick loaned me parts to make a race just a month ago, Greg went out of his way to coach me on the Road America track that same weekend, and Jason was a fun and gracious host when I traveled to AZ early in the year. These guys, and most everyone else lined up behind them at the finish are just great and a reason to come back to Hprod. Congrats on one of the best races of the 11 runoffs.

Congradulations to Greg, Dick and Jason. Chris had ignition and clutch troubles for few days and we thought we had got rid of all the demons. We didn't do to well but at least we still have a Fast and shiny car to rewire this winter. Good job all.

What a great week! Not sure if I picked the right tire, but it was what I picked and I did the best I could. Jason repassed me without much room and did a great job of keeping the car on the track afterwards. Having never ran there in the rain I didn't know what to do for tires or setup so decided to run stiff and with intermediates (cut slicks). Had great control in the fast corners but no braking or acceleration traction. Watched my video tonight with the guys at the shop and they all commented on how you could see all three of the guys in front of me and Matt in my mirrors the whole damn race. So happy for Greg, Dick and Jason. Three great guys and great guys to race with. I was surprised at how the track got slicker as it was supposed to be drying out. The video shows us going faster and faster so maybe that was why it seemed to be getting slicker and slicker.

Not sure about next year for me. I've done my three years in HP and am seriously considering selling the car. Perfect for that young fast driver, only driven on weekends by senior citizen. Plenty of spares. Can't think of a better group to race with. Car comes complete with registration and antique vehicle plates. Street legal in Texas.

HP #66 4th at 2011 Runoffs and proud of it.

It wasn't so much that I slowed up, it was more that the front wheel drive cars (and Matt) realized how much faster they could be than Moser (on slicks) and me (with rear wheel drive). I spun coming out of the carousel, but it wasn't going to happen for me that day unless it rained hard enough for my full wet set-up to work to my advantage. I don't think the finishing order would have been any different if I hadn't looped it, but if the sky opened up, I might have had a chance provided they were on inters. Maybe not even then.

It was fun for a couple of laps, but Greg showed that his skills and knowledge of the track is hard to beat at RA. Congrats, Greg, as well as Dick and Jason for your podium finishes. Nice drives all.

Although I don't know him, I feel bad for Mike Moser. I know about bad tire selections myself. At one Runoffs I had a set of fresh intermediates in the trailer and went out on rains which I promptly cooked. It hurts.

You were a mad man out there... How you went that fast in the rain with RWD I will never know, it was amazing. :applause:

I would have also liked to see more rain... I was on DOT Kumho wets, as you can see from the video they are just as fast in the grass as in the wet, in the dry they are not so good.

The writing was on the wall after Qual 1, when Greg beat up on FP in the wet. 88-o
