I thought there may be more out of state entries with the High Plains Double National / Super Tour 2 weeks later. It would have been and easy 4 Nationals in 14 days.
I was thinking the same thing and hoping to make it, but got behind on some projects and not quite ready. 1100 miles is a long ways to go and not be 100% prepared.

Reply for Hammill.

When there are Drag Races on Friday night (a program designed to hopefully reduce the on-street racing)
1. Paddock parking is restricted to the Northern portion
2. Friday Test and Tune ends at 3:30 vice 5:00
3. For those camping, it is noisy until late
4. All manner of spectators are wandering about the paddock
And
The Drag Racers put down rubber in the track out area of Turn 10

Not having the Friday Night Drags allows the track staff to de-rubber the track on Thursday.

Cancellation of drag races is not a rumor, it is FACT

Understood, when you had said drag races I was thinking as whole for the year not road race weekends. Thank you for the info.

I have raced there a hand full of times and can confirm its a little hard to not want to go check out what's happening on those Friday nights.

In my experience there most of the drag racers that are "wandering about the paddock" are interested in what the road racers are doing. They like to look at the cars and chat with the folks that are there camping or working on their cars. I wouldn't leave my tool box out and unlocked but the inference seemed a bit harsh.

After a crazy week of last-minute car issues, a non-car related circumstance came up and I'm unable to attend.

Good luck to everyone - see you at HPR.

First off, the track repave is fantastic. Turn 10 is still funky because of the drag strip entrance, but the rest of the course is baby's bottom smooth and has tons of grip.

Friday I did a couple of sessions in my car and Mike Halbrook was kind enough to let me take out his Caterham 7 for a session. What a treat! It was fun to drive a car like my Lotus with that much more power. Mike has also done a great job on the handling. Tons of stick.

This morning's practice had Bill Hingston get into the wall coming out of 10. You have to cross over the burnout area and it's very slick, but good grip on the other side. Unfortunately Bill's weekend was done. Qualifying had me on the OA pole, with Longwell's BMW second and Harris third. Rick's first time ever at Pueblo today.

Race was a one of a kind experience. Despite FP being overall pole, EP got the first split start. FP and HP were in the second group. I got one of those rare anticipate the green starts perfect and jumped ahead of Harris and Eisele at the start. Was able to pull a gap the first three laps and then Rick disappeared. I guess he spun in 9. The skies were very dark to the west in the mountains and we all wondered what might happen. Well, about 4 laps in, the wind blew sand storms in. Normally doing around 115 into Turn one, one lap I was at just over 100. That windy! It had been spitting a little the entire time, but on around lap 8 everything opened up. At the same time, I got stuck in 2nd gear, just after making it to 3rd overall and catching the leading EP cars of Longwell and Halbrook. The skies opened up and we had heavy rain and wind. We're all on slicks and its amazing nobody crashed in 10, which was like sheer ice. THe lightning forced many of the corner workers into their cars, which was weird, almost like a test day with nobody on station. Lap 10, we got black flags and the checker came out at just past half distance.

I got a gift from mother nature to take the win with the car stuck in 2nd. We do it all over again Sunday, and it's supposed to be 101 degrees and sunny. Time to get out the cool suit?

I spent some time with the timing crew tonight and I think we may have timing sorted out. Look for it Sunday.

From live timing it looked like a good race. Can't wait for another Eric Prill video. Looked like Harris was right behind him most of the race. They had to get around about 4 EP cars that started in front of them even though Eric had the fastest lap.

1 Prill FP
2 Harris FP 0.416 Gap
3 Longwell EPO 12.747 Gap
4 Eisele FO
5 Halbrook
6 Kosdrosky EP
7 Pineider EP
8 Svaton EP
9 Burnett HP
10 Cancellieri FP

44 cars in a "Majors" National?

Is this what folks were expecting?

Were there weather issues or other mitigating factors?

That's the lowest car count I've ever heard anywhere, SCCA or otherwise.

My question is how much money was lost by the region. Even if its an inexpensive rental(10K), this had to be a money loser. Well this will at least tell Topeka how far poeple are willing to travel in the current economic conditions. I wonder what the next big idea will be coming from our national office?

Not a dime Chris. These events are being covered by Topeka. If money was lost, it was
lost by all of us via Topeka.

You know,

When Chris and I are in 100% agreement, something is seriously wrong.

Notice that there were multiple stories about the Majors race on the SCCA website, but not one thing about the June Sprints?

Listen fellas - the Majors didn't attract many drivers to Pueblo, but I don't see you posting any ideas you'll guarantee to work either.

The reality is we had a double national three weeks ago, and we have another one in two weeks. There's another double in division, a month later, and yet another double national at the beginning of September. That's FIVE double nationals, in the span from Memorial to Labor day.

Both NASA and the RMVR (vintage folks) have far greater car counts than the SCCA our here this year. The Majors wasn't intended to address that issue, but you already knew that.

You'll have to ask those drivers why they chose the other organizations. I can say with great certainty, the Majors had little or nothing to do with their decision.

I get that you're upset but I don't see how you're helping anything.

Just a quick followup on the popularity of NASA out here.

NASA has not one, but two categories of classes, where you can start with a car, make a few changes, and move up but stay in the same category.

PT and GTS allow you to buy/build a car, make a few changes, and then just move up the classes but stay in the same category.

For example, you can build a BMW M3 (not really competitive in any SCCA class) and race it for a year or two in GTS1, make some mods, move up to GTS2, and on and on up to GTS5.

I get that SCCA doesn't want/need to add more classes, but this is one thing NASA really got figured out.

And, it's draining our driver pool, plain and simple.

Would you really vote PT and GTS into SCCA? Of course not. So, we lose those drivers.

Last time I looked, 5 doubles = 10 Nationals.

So 2 weekends and almost everyone has met the requirements for runoffs.

I'm just sayin.
