Bias rules. Radial drools.

Even NASCAR doesn't use that outdated bias technology - and those guy just discovered fuel injection - maybe one day you all those silhouette cars will figure out how to make a modern tire work.

I've run an HP Sprite and an HP Fiat X1/9.....both on bias GYs. The last time I was on track was the 2103 Runoffs at RA.

I'll be on track in 2015 and expect to be on bias plays again.....I'm not smart enough to figure out what a radial needs for my new car just yet. I'll need to learn to drive it on what I know. And that's bais tires.

You are welcome to toss my vote, but I raced on radials in IT, and will be on radials when my new HP cars hit the track, ideally yet this year, latest early next.

I still don't understand the mystery of the setup change going from a bias slick to a "race" radial slick. The only thing of "major" consideration I did to my AS Pontiac/Chevy, ITB Volvo, EP BMW, FP/GT3 Volvo and HP Honda was to add positive caster when going from bias to radial. Final tuning consisted of adjusting wheel spring rates using tire pressures to accomodate balance and turn in. Pretty much every front running fellow competitor that I have had conversations with did the same thing with good results. It must be working as we continue to win races and set lap records in the process !!! I still think that tires that don't crown or recess with pressure changes are the best thing since sliced bread!! Call me lazy and crazy I guess. Maybe our shock valving choices are foreign to some ??? That info I won't share--sorry.

Last SCCA race was a quad regional at Pueblo
Ran it on GY Bias
Since I can't get them any more I've gone to Hoosier Radials
Ran them in vintage races back in June - very happy with them even though I was using the bias alignment and they hold air - hey Hoosier answer your darn phone!
Would have run them in the Pueblo Majors but didn't like the qualifying conditions.

Radials ...........but only because when Goodyear went they took the 8" bias tire with them and 9" bias will not fit without building all new bodywork. 215 radial slick fits fine. Have not gone as fast yet on the radial yet despite spring changes, altered geometry front and rear, etc. so not thrilled. FWD cars sure seem to like em though.

Radials. The Honda is much faster than on bias. I get a little better wear with them as well. Last race was TWS. Ran in the heat and qualified less than a second of Weber's track record. Ran the same tires that I ran at NOLA and ECR went to cord during the race but was still competitive. Trenery was on old tires as well. They were running bias I think.

Forgot.... Early 2000s we ran radials on an FP car. Great handling. We had to tune the suspension to the tires but you do that with the bias tires.

Bias ply, SARRC/MARRS challenge at VIR in May. Will run this coming weekend @MARRS LDD

Based on what we saw at the Summit Point Major, I am thinking the Radials are the way to go.
That is NON DOT-R radials.

Greg brings up an interesting point. He runs bias ply now but next year will likely be on radials. I think I saw some others express this same sentiment. Now that the radials are starting to show that they are faster than the bias ply there will be a number of racers that take the plunge. Maybe the poll should be asking what will you run next year.

Sorry, I voted to see the results before I read the rules, so you can -1 on the radials, or.... let it lay:

STU - DOT Radials Buttonwillow Major (April 26th/27th 2014)
