Majors schedules announced

If your intention is to qualify for the Runoffs via the Majors path, you can do so by attending three weekends. And yes, four Majors 2014 Majors events will be in California but it's a long state.

According to MapQuest:
. Thunderhill - Fontana = 512 miles
. Thunderhill - Chuckwalla = 640 miles
. Thunderhill - Portland = 496 miles
. Thunderhill - Seattle = 668 miles

So regardless of where you are on the Left Coast, you can hit three Majors weekends without travelling "1000 miles one way" to do so.[

Who the hell cares about TH to wherever? Try Seattle or Portland and see what you get.
Regardless, your 3 and in philosophy kind of flies in the face of clustering competition. it takes 4 weekends to win a championship and probably tow fund. The CA drivers never have to venture north to get 4

Seattle to Thunderhill isn't he same distance as Thunderhill to Seattle?
Portland to Thunderhill isn't the same distance as Thunderhill to Portland?

Then there's Portland to Seattle, oh, and Seattle to Portland.

That's four Majors substantially under 1000 miles from either Portland or Seattle.

From my home town of Belmont, CA

737 miles to Miller Motorsports Park (Rumor for 2017 Run-Offs)
821 miles to Seattle
663 miles to Portland
408 miles to Fontana
235 miles to Buttonwillow
169 miles to Thunderhill
97 miles to Laguna Seca
70 miles to Sears Point

Daytona is 2,885 miles
Mid-Ohio is 2,434
Road Atlanta is 2,525
Road America is 2,197

I do like the every 3 year "rotation". This seems fair to everybody, considering that SCCA has 45 years to make up for favoring the east coast membership

Butch,

Now that you're regular folk, we need to get you into a GTL foster car.

You in? Come on now, you'd love to whoop my butt on track! ;)

Obviously I'm not able to leave this alone, so I ran figures from the six 2015 Western Conference tracks to various metropolitan areas within the conference borders. These are one-way mileage numbers from MapQuest.

If you want to hit all six WC Majors events:
. Seattle - 4357
. Portland - 3626
. San Francisco - 2805
. Los Angeles - 2903
. San Diego - 3444
. Phoenix - 4598

To hit the closest three WC Majors events (minimum needed for a post-season invitation):
. Seattle - 861
. Portland - 654
. San Francisco - 823
. Los Angeles - 353
. San Diego - 535
. Phoenix - 1021

And to hit the closest four WC Majors events, which gives you the max races to count towards championships:
. Seattle - 1869
. Portland - 1489
. San Francisco - 1378
. Los Angeles - 822
. San Diego - 1122
. Phoenix - 1858

So yes, those who choose to live in Seattle have to travel farther than those who choose to live in California, but that's part of the price you pay to live in what Scotty calls "God's Country". The folks in Phoenix (and yes, SCCA does have members there - as many as live in Seattle) are the ones that really get hosed, but you don't see them coming on here whining, do you?

But then (as always with you, Dave) there's no sense in letting the facts get in the way of a good rant, is there?

I'm done now...

I picked the wrong time to move to south Texas. Only one Majors within a 10 hour drive, and it's like 8.5.

Anxiously awaiting the two "to be named later" events. Might end up just leaving the car in Ohio if some events don't come closer. A plane ticket to a GLDiv event will be cheaper than gas to a "local" event, and the travel time will be shorter too.

Kevin, there will likely be one at TWS or Eagles Canyon. All of the rest are going to be 600+ miles from us. There was also one at HPT this year that's not on next season's schedule yet, so there may be another 1000+ mile race.

The good news is there are lots of "regional" races around here, but I'm going to hold my tongue on that one until we see the schedule for next year. I really hope we get to hit TWS a few more times before it closes permanently.

I'll wait until the 2 TBA for Mid-States are announced but the thought of selling/parting out the car is becoming more appealing.

So I don't get the pissyness in this thread. Fact is if you want to go to the runoffs you will find a way. I think very few from the west will head to Daytona next year, a small portion of the mid states and it will be filled with east coasters that did not make the trip this year. Maybe we should have a major PCCRC again next year for the west coasters to play at while we wait for our round again in again 2017. While Money is a big part of it for me it is the loss of time to travel. I cannot do doubles every weekend and 3 day weekends take too much more time from business.

Joe - I have a transport firm that will transport west coast race cars to Daytona for under $1000 each way. [We did one car LA to SC coast for $750 including 8 spare wheels and 10 totes of spares. They are cheaper than what we'd spend in fuel.]

I think if we show people a way that they car race on the high banks of Daytona without having to give up their day jobs to be truck drivers, we might have some huge Prod/GT fields.

Peter

Maybe us West Coast guys should all bombard Scotty B. White, since he OWNS a transportation company, to get a ton of west coast cars to Daytona next year.

Even better idea. IT CAN BE DONE! Peter

Great peter, I will do my best to encourage people to take advantage, For me Daytona just doesn't rate high on my priorities list. Mido in 2016 for me is more likely.

Butch, I will give you and the BOD kudos for clustering the competition in the Western Conference. Too bad it will all take place in CA. Very few of the CA drivers ever came up to NorPac to race and nothing in the Majors schedule will change that.

Norpac drivers, on the other hand, are forced to travel to California and AZ. I liked it better when I could pick and choose which tracks I went to in order to gather NAT points. Miller was closer than Buttonwillow, and a nicer track to boot.

Hmm, let's see, Jan in CA at Fontana or FL for Sebring/Homestead. That's an easy decision except the FL races don't count for Western Con. So not only do I not go to Fontana, (you know why) FL loses out also.

actually Jason I think this schedule refers to the calclub event they have had the last couple years and is open to all comers , regardless of club affiliation. I think what Joe and Eric are talking about is the official SCCA west coast championships that will hopefully serve as a place holder for runoffs in off-years. I believe that will probably take place up in SFR next year but I would love to see it move around and be hosted by calclub soon. or I could be all wrong...

I would love to see it held in Portland. We have a runoffs quality facility here.
