TWS Super Tour - March 9-11

I don't understand. I thought the Majors events were supposed to be limited to specific classes. Looks like this one includes everyone. Did I miss something?

Just when I thought I couldn't be more confused .....

So this is a "Majors" event .... but it has all of the GCR national classes in it .... :? :-[...

What gives?

I'm 100% certain that you have people skipping this event because they think that they're not invited (not in the "Majors" classes).

-Kyle

<edit> - Now that's funny. Jinx. Double jinx.

Not trying to be dismissive, but the reasons why all classes are invited to this event has been covered on the million-page majors thread some time ago.

I'd like to know a couple things tho

1) How many drivers outside of the Majors classes signed up for this event?
2) Did the Majors classes really get anything special or different.

Not whining - I believe in the idea - but I'd like to know what actually happened.

Honestly, it doesn't matter why this is a "majors" event that has all the classes. It's just another example of excellence created when you have leadership by committee.

Pre Event looks similar to most of our SW Division races except
- No Regional Classes
- 3 Days ( 2 practice sessions Friday )
- Slightly higher entry fee
- Higher car count ( 160 )

SRF & SM get their own groups ( as normal ) ... Prod / STU almost got their own group ( STL added )

Should be a good weekend ( For a Duck ... Heavy Rain forecast all 3 days )

I tried to find this and couldn't. Would you mind restating it here?

-Kyle

Kyle, I remember the reason being that regions were afraid of diminished entry counts. Additionally I remember reading that they also did not want to disenfranchise loyal members just because they didn't drive in a popular class.

(These by the way appear to be the better reasons against the majors, imho).

Maybe when the event is over the RE can comment on specifics.

If I can find some time this weekend I'll take a look over that thread and see what I can find - maybe I actually heard it during the announcement conference call - if so I apologize for thinking everyone had discussed this on this board.

In any case, I think all this is moot. I heard on the Weather Channel this morning that they were expecting 4-7 INCHES of rain in that area.

The BFG Tour events are not diferent from previous years and are 'showcase' events. The newly added 'invitation' events have been added to try to develop an elite series for the future. This is a BFG Super Tour. In a couple of weeks we'll have an Invitational at TMS. Two different types of events but both part of the new test series.

Seeing this makes me a little glad I couldn't make it out there. I was seriously considering it a month ago until we (the family) picked this weekend to have a big fun day for the grand-kids.

Stay warm James. BTW, did you ever come up with a decent windshield defogging idea?

As James said, there are 3 Invitationals (TMS, Pueblo and HPT). Those three events, coupled with the three BFGoodrich Tires Super Tour Events (which remain unchanged) are the six events that make up the Majors Championship in the pilot year.

It is 47 degrees and absolutely pouring. Our paddock is flooded. Hearing that many people are staying home. We're committed to running though!

Prod is group 5 out of six. Group 1 just finishing up afternoon session. Our session this morning was not really that wet. I went out on slicks because I didn't want to damage the wets. Then it started raining on the back side of the track while it was sunny on the oval. I decided not to tempt fate and brought it in. Good times!

Eric, your rainy day at the track is still better than my snowy day at work. Well...... maybe but at worst it's a draw.

:ask:

Thanks James and Eric,

But I'm still confused. And this is in no way directed at you guys.

The event this weekend at TWS is a Majors event per the SCCA website. I looked it up and I see now that all 29 classes are invited. It is not described as either an "Invitational" or a "Showcase" event.

I thought that the "Majors" was going to consist of two types of events. "Invitationals" where only the top 10 classes are invited. And "Showcase" where the other 19 classes are invited. These events appears to not fall into either category.

I also see that the next event at TWS, despite being called an "invitational", will also include all 29 classes (again). More confusion, since that event is NOT a SuperTour event.

Can someone please explain the real reasons that this Majors program seems like a mess and we haven't even thrown the first green flag yet. To describe my feelings about this as frustrated is being kind and I suspect that 90% of the club feels similarly. At least everyone I've spoken to about it does.

Also Eric, you mention 6 events, but the club website lists 8.

-Kyle

Okay, so I think I see the 6 vs 8 thing. The 2 missing events are "Showcase" events that are not points paying?

So the ladder is now:

Regional
National
Showcase
SuperTour
Invitational
Runoffs

And the idea was consolidation and simplification?

-Kyle

I didn't realize that there would be majors events that were not invitationals. I get it now. (still not wild about it, but I'm over it).

163 preregistered. As of the close of registration today 132 have gone through registration at the track. I'm on schedule to loose my ass on this one.

This was a super tour before the majors programs was announced. I asked at the convention how the majors concept was going to be proven by having them at the same event as a super tour. The answer was "they" wanted to ease into the program by having the first three with the super tour and the work out the bugs before the three stand alone majors. I'll try to get a break down of the class participation together after registration closes Sunday. (there is only one STO but I'm working on correcting that)

The May TMS (Not TWS) event is a separate Invitational, Showcase, and Regional all held on one three day race weekend. Texas region has worked hard to make sure everyone gets an opportunity to race that weekend.

Doesn't the "Majors" involve Bonus or Double points toward the Run-Offs?

If so, do ALL participants get these points, or only the participants in the favored classes?

No 'bonus' points. Three major starts get you into runoffs. Four national finishes with required points otherwise.

While today's session was dampish the afternoon session was under water. I got one timed lap before, you guessed it, the car stuck in gear. I took that thing out 7 times last year but none were as fun as today-laying in an inch of cold water in 45 degree temps. Good times...
