Mid Ohio october race

Marnie exploded her transmission in the morning. She said parts were flying by her faster than she was going! I agree with that crappy start. I was running just behind the car I was gridding against going toward the carousel ready to pull up along and didn't see anyone in front of him! I looked over to the start stand and saw the green and I took off before I even got to the carousel. I never had a chance to get with the other cars. No matter to me. I just went the best I could.

Thanks Aaron, you have given me an excuse for my spin into the tires. I'll just say I spun in your oil! (was really a worn left rear without much stick left to it)

Well I'm partially to blame on the crap sunday A.M. start guys. Grid told me TWO pace laps, I did'nt slow up to gather the field till thunder valley and had a suspicion I had been misled when I didn't see yellows at start/finish. Heck I passed someone on the first lap that was entering the keyhole as I was exiting turn one on the first lap. I also heard some of the corners were a bit slow dropping the yellows after the green as well. Then again, keep up buttercup no reason to be 100 yards behind on a pace lap.

We got away with one this last weekend, safety wise.

A stock, unlightened flywheel that we swapped in as an emergency back-up exploded out of the trans of the red X19 with Marnie behind the wheel, at the end of the backstraight, and destroyed the entire driveline of the car.

All six crank bolts sheared along with the centering dowel and input shaft of the trans. Shattered bell housing, starter, and worst of all, a corner of the block broken. Several contributing factors of why it likely happened, but loose bolts were not one of them.

On its way out it grabbed the shifter rod hard enough to do this:

And, of course, the way the motor is positioned, it's perpendicular to and right behind the driver. And I'm assuming it's spinning CCW as well. It could have chewed it's way right through anything in its path.

Aaron,

GREAT racing with you! I'm still learning rear wheel drive and chasing you was very good for me! The contact on Sunday did more damage than I could see (the Solstice doesn't take even a little hit well...). Still a blast and always nice to race close and clean(ish) all weekend with someone!! There was a yellow after the bridge, but it was hard to see and I didn't remember seeing it at the end of the race when we talked. Here are the two video clips I have - one of the contact you had with the IT7. I wasn't close, but you did go to the grass to try and avoid the contact. We were lapping him and I thought he was letting you have the line (as I'm guessing you did as well). The other is our little bump at the end of the back straight.

This was my 3rd weekend in the T4 Solstice and I was on 9 year old tires. Can't wait to get some more laps (and new tires) under me next year. Very nice job with the 'oil' issues you had on Sunday. Looked like a handful and you push thru to get to the end!! See you next year. :D

Sorry about the contact. I should have backed off a bit sooner when I realized the oil was all over my feet. That hit was a lot harder than it seemed. Shockingly no damage to the spit at all. Not even any paint.

Thanks for the videos. My video quit before the incident.

No worries Aaron! We raced very clean and close all weekend! Had to scratch the new car sometime and am just glad it was a little bump for the first one! I couldn't believe how soaked your shoes were after the race! :)
