GLDiv CR schedule

What I'm telling those that have a hard time understanding economics is the SCCA isn't a group that contributes to our bottom line. They are an occasional customer at best, but not a group that pays the bills. We are almost sold out for 2014. I have to save traditional dates for NASA and SCCA just to keep the participant members happy that they don't need to travel. We have between 40-60 racing members at the track. The SCCA and NASA both hold two races a year for them. That FOUR weekends out of 52 potential weekends. Most of those regional racers don't travel farther than TWS.

We have other track renters that buy five or six weekends a year and want more. The economics is plain. Track day groups come in and leave the place the way they found it. Some of the major market folks will suggest improvements and do funding if it is something that is specific to their needs. In fact the guys that run motorcycle days are so worried about their reputation they will ask to come out and do clean up and repairs after their events. We had a shower stall suffer some tile damage last week and the organizer sent a crew down to redo the tile. I had to turn them away as it was simply a general maintenance item. I took their names and will send them a day pass. So it's a win win for both of us.

Regardless, it's just economics. Sales keeps the doors open. The SCCA and NASA try to minimize their races to increase their event numbers. In doing so, they decrease their track time buying power at old rates. The more private groups wanting to buy track time reduces the amount of track time available to sell. The rates go up meeting demand. What you can expect at the rate things are going are entry fees from the SCCA and NASA close to pro entry fees. Places like Road America and Road Atlanta can offset their rental with gate fees. But if you don't draw, then the fees will go up correspondingly. The good thing about those older tracks is they have little, if any, debt to service. Most of us have debt to serve and it's a thankless master that just wants to be fed and nostalgia is a poor substitute for real sales.

YMMV but I have 300 members and 12 employees that demand that we are economical not just today, but going forward.

ps..
The plumber, at least the ones here, don't really treat you "good" until you agree to the service call and rate. Once that happens then you are their best buddy. But don't tell them it's too much over the phone or they won't come.

So let me try and understand this. SCCA can tell all the owners of little british cars that they need to build new cars and not to expect their current cars to be competitive. GTL couldn't get 10 cars to come to the Runoffs last year. Not a single Mini. Seems to me James is treating SCCA the same way SCCA treats some of their "customers".

There were 10 GTLs at the runoffs in 2012. Of this fact, I'm 100% certain.

Steve Sargis' Spitfire would fall into the "little British cars" category. Despite some bad luck with a mechanical issue, Steve was certainly in the hunt for a GTL win. Also consider that his car is not fully developed for GTL.

Over the past few years there have been several major waves of changes to the GTL rules that were aimed at helping small bore cars like the mini/sprite. So I'm not sure where you get off saying that the club isn't trying to help you. These efforts to help you have been costly to the class in terms of lost big bore cars, and yet some small bore guys like you continue to bitch and rarely show up.

The club is a group of volunteers that take time from their lives, families, jobs, racing efforts to help the club racing community. For you to bash the these people with a broad brush is just wrong. Especially when it's clear that they've tried to help. I'm sure you will disagree, but what I've posted here are verifiable facts.

I cant remember the last time I saw a post from you that was positive or helpful.

Well the good news is in and MIS has agreed to make some changes so that their road course can be used by SCCA. This means that the WMR event at MIS is on for Memorial Day weekend next summer. Woohoo!

There is a lot of work to be done before the race but I know we can get it taken care of. the toughest part will be the paddock. While MIS is a huge facility, only a small portion of it will be available for us to paddock cars in. Using Google Earth's measuring tool, I think that it'll hold 200 cars in the infield. If our entries are greater than that, then we'll have to utilize some of the grassy areas outside the track. So when registration opens for this event, get in early as we'll only be able to guarantee the first 200 cars will be inside thew track.

Obviously, I'll let you know what's what as we move forward on this.

Dayle - I stole this picture from MIS's "Test Facilities" site. So what's the layout that SCCA is going to use?

It goes CCW. So follow the red line through the infield from NASCAR T1. Where the red line turns left to go back towards the front straight, we will be turning right and heading towards the back straight. We'll enter the oval at NASCAR T3 and follow it around to S/F. We'll be on the oval across S/F not in the pits like the red line in the image. Its about 1.9 miles. I'll try and post a track map when I find one thats accurate.

I'll be heading down there soon to get a better look at things. Unlike MidO, we get to keep the money for RV sites, garages, etc. There will be a region sponsored, SCCA test day on that Friday (5/24). This is a Majors event and will be a double. We're still working on the entry fee for both the test day and event.

I added a red line showing the course on a Google Earth pic but it was too big to post here. Go to the link below and download the track map.

Great news Dayle. Let us know if there any warm bodies needed before the race weekend, I'm sure I could round up a few people (schedules permitting of course) and hop on over and give a hand if needed.

Thanks for the offer, Tim. As things sort out, we may very well need some support for our local friends to make this a really successful operation.

My biggest fear is that we don't have enough workers to get entrants into the facility in an orderly fashion (no hassles). We may have 200 paddock spots but they are spread all over the place and have a wide variety of sizes. And this is a new facility for everyone involved so we don't want anyone getting lost. My guess is that, just like RA, we'll need folks to escort entrants to their correct spots. We don't want a 20' trailer in an 80' space (or vice versa). Setting up MSR to do that may be a trick as well.

And the fun begins.....
