Hey JimmyP,

How's the light contrast on one of those replays? I've been using a Samsung Gs-Pv150 sport cam with the remote bullet and the light ballance is so bad, that I have to mount it under my mirror with only a hood shot. I'd like to mount on the cage and record my response to what's going on outside, but it seems there's never enough capacity to film both inside and outside light levels at the same time.

I had a similar issue with the bullet camera mounted on the rollcage inside my SM. Painting the interior bright white helped greatly with the contrast issue - it wasn't nearly as dark inside the car then, so it didn't have to deal with as much of a contrast between inside and outside.

Just to bring some addtional data to this discussion. My friend has a Replay XD 1080p version, which we tried inside the car. Great resolution on the gauges and depending on the outside light condition, some outside action, but the camera was too low to really see out over the dash and hood. I'll post some of shots as soon as I get get the video. Also, some of the early shots still had contrast issues as the inside is more of the shot than out the windshield. It works great on his FC though.

So I finally got my Sony HDR-AS30V to work with GPS mode. The sampling speed is way too slow for a car to get real time mph. Plus the track map is all over the place. Not sure if there is a way to make it better. The video is outstanding. Sound is not that great since it's inside the waterproof case. I'm thinking about trying it tomorrow sans case to see how that works.

James, does it have an external GPS antenna input, and is the sampling rate adjustable? (Answer is probably no to both of those, but thought I'd ask..)

Matt, so far the answer is no to both those questions. The sample rate needs to be at least 10mhz for a car. No connection for external antenna. But the things finds itself in my house quickly which is something considering all the rock walls.

10mhz (millihertz), 10MHz (megahertz), or 10Hz (just plain hertz)?

Yes, I know the right answer to this, just giving you crap.. :p

I wouldn't suspect anything other than dedicated data acquisition equipment to have a sensor capable of anything faster than 1Hz. some phones are a bit faster- 2 or 5Hz, but they still don't have the accuracy needed for data acquisition. for a lap timer reasonably accurate to 0.1sec, I would say 1Hz would be 'good enough', but if you're counting hundredths or smaller, then I wouldn't touch anything under 5Hz.

Actually, the answer is I don't know and Yes. The 1080p can record in 720p at 60Hz and 1080p at 30Hz. But I don't know if it has GPS inputs.

Using the iphone 4s............. does anyone make an app that allows simultaneous recording from BOTH the front and rear cameras?? That would be VERY handy for protests! Help!

Allegedly, there is an iphone app called Flexicorder multioption videorecorder that allows iphone 3 and up owners to record on the front and back camera simultaneously! But I can't find a way to order/download it. Help!!

Contour is back in business. I heard from a customer over the weekend that they down sized and re-structured.

Tim, I looked and saw that after I posted, great news.

The Contour worked great and I like the GPS function with Google earth and elevation and speed.

The GPS trace in a closed car wasn't great at Road America. A few laps had me going straight at turn 1 outside the track and coming back on in turn 3.

I have the connect card in mine so I can sinc it with my iPhone. Great for setting it up if you can't see the back of the camera.

GoPros are hard to find with deep discounts.

REI is having a 20% off any one item sale right now. So a GoPro 3 Black Plus is $320. That's $80 off.

The code is "126TAKE20". The deal ends March 9th.
