Best fuel pressure regulator

I’m running 2x SU H4’s on an A-series 948, bored to 998cc, and built to meet FIA Appendix K for Period E, Class GTS03 or SCCA 1961 PCS C-prod, with twin pumps in Fuel Safe cell.

Currently using a Malpassi filter/regulator but thinking we’re getting too high fuel pressure at carbs as we’re having over rich issues.

Looking for regulator that works well in the 1.5-3.5psi range recommended for SU’s.

Pegasus has 4 good quality regulators in their catalog. Summit also has an extensive range. We've been using the Holley regulators for years on both our 948s and 1275s. They aren't the class of the group but they work.

I have had very good experiences with the round chrome Mr Gasket(?) regulator. The issue with so many is the low pressure required. Pegasus is a good place to look.

Have used Holley fuel regulators in my bugeye for 15 years. Had one failure in that time, otherwise they work and won't break the bank.

I'll ask the dumb question. This problem just started and the car ran fine with this setup in the past.

(Your name, KG? We do strongly encourage using formal names either as handles or in sigs...)

...and I don't know SUs, but with with the float set properly and "too much fuel pressure" (do you have a gauge?) I'd expect a bowl vent to be pissing out fuel rather than just running rich...

I use the Holley 12-881 no-bypass one on my Dellorto-equipped 914...with a gauge...

Forgot to mention you need a gauge. We use the 0 to 15 lb liquid filled unit from Summit, SUM 800135, $26.99. Most of the regulators have a port to screw the gauge into.

Forgot to mention that all these regulators are adjustable. Is yours? We run ours at 3 to 3,5.

Hello Greg,

Apologies for lack of formal name, just old habit to use initials. In the future I'll sign with name, Ken Grasing.

Thanks for your information re fuel pressure regulator and gauge.

Ken, +1 for the adjustable Holley and lower pressure pump. What jet size are you running and how far down from the bridge are you setting them, because that has to be relative to the float level. Also, are you using the Viton tipped needle and seat or Groose Jets? And as someone also referenced is this a new condition or one you have had and are trying to fix. Also is the over-rich constant or in cornering?
