1989 240SX for FP

I am selling my 89 240SX that I raced in SCCA ITA for many years. The motor grenaded over 5 years ago and the car has sat in the garage since then due to covid and other life things. I originally purchased the car in 2005 from Bob Stretch. He was one of the fast drivers and raced the car during the heyday of IT and the ARRC. He was competing at the front with the likes of Serra and the Mosers. The car is fast in the right hands. I am not that good, but the car is a blast to drive and a non-Miata RWD car you can race in FP. I worked with Kevin Ruck to get the car classed in FP limited prep and my intention was to build a new motor and race in FP, but I never made it there.

The original tub was a mess and in 2010 I found a donor car to use for a new tub. The donor car was in such good shape that I hated to turn it into a race car - I drove it home with cold A/C and even the motorized seat belts worked. This is the current car and this tub has never been wrecked and is in excellent shape - even the pinch welds aren't all bent up and the red is the original color. The cage I had done at Robinson Motorsports in Atl and if you know Trevor he did a lot of the work. The seat frame is welded to the cage and not part of the floor as it should be. The cage is attached at the firewall and is FP legal. I did most of the mechanical work myself on moving everything from the old tub to the new tub and have an intimate knowledge of how everything is put together.

I'm just going to list off a bunch of things a prospective buyer might want to know. There's way too much to list everything.

- The car has a complete spherical bearing suspension front and rear. This is a must when the cars are lowered a lot. There is a complete spare suspension with sphericals included.
- There are Ohlins coilovers at all four corners. This was a complete custom setup that Bob developed. They are due for a rebuild, but still work fine.
- The stock fuel tank has been removed and there is a 10gal fuel cell in the trunk.
- The car comes with a set of real Volk TE-37s with one extra wheel and a set of Team Dynamics wheels. These are 15x7 in the right offset to not need spacers. It also comes with the original steelies to roll the car around on and not sit on the race tires (this is what's in the pics).
- The ECU is stock with a JWT chip in it. The car was built back before stand alone ECUs were allowed in IT and I was never fast enough to make it worth investing in a stand alone. There is certainly power under the curve to be found there and for FP you'd want a stand alone.
- The motor block is toast. I included a pic of the hole for grins. The power in IT was in the heads and the exhaust headers, though. The headers are a custom one developed by Bob over a few iterations and the heads were done by an ex-Rebello guy. So they are top notch. I think the heads are probably ok though I have not pulled them to look.
- The car comes with a spare motor from the donor car that ran fine. This has been sitting in the garage and not outside somehwere in the weather. I think you could take the heads off the blown motor, freshen them up, and put them on the spare one; freshen up the bottom end and use the custom exhaust header and have a pretty decent motor.
- The car has a full fire system that is FP legal.
- I removed the steering column key lock system and the car uses a switch and push button start. I also added various switches for other purposes.
- There are a couple digital gauges for oil pressure/oil temp and fuel pressure/water temp. The car also comes with a wideband O2 sensor that was never installed.
- The car comes with enough spares to pratically make another car. There is a spare transmision. Two spare diffs - one of which is a Nismo 4.6. Spare front and rear subframes. Spare hood. The list goes on. I literally have two shelving units of spare parts.
- There are NACA ducts in the splitter to feed cool air to the brake calipers and rotors. The splitter got damaged getting the car onto the trailer after the motor blowup and probably just needs to be replaced.
- The car comes with a brand new set of Hoosier wets on the Team Dynamics rims. They have been kept in garbage bags in the basemnt and look and feel new. A $1000 bonus for the new owner.

Note: The car does not come with the camera system or Traqmate system seen in the pics. These will be removed.

This car is great starting point for a FP build. A lot of the hard work has already been done. You'll probably need to do a little cage and seat work as the seat is setup for me at 6'5" with long legs. But if that's you then you're set to go.

It has an aluminum Kirkey seat that I really liked as it holds you tight, but doesn't have the halo, though you can add it on. It has a 6pt belt system, but the belts have long aged out.

I'm asking $10K. I know the car inside and out so if you have any questions let me know. And if you want pics of something specific also let me know. I am located in the Atlanta metro area. Contact me at [email protected].
