Radiator Protective Screens

What plastic honeycomb screens are you referring to?

I like using metal cloth mesh, ie a relatively coarse screen of wire crossed/woven at 90 degrees. It is close to unbreakable, will absorb a lot of energy by deforming if hit by a rock etc. And cheap, I bought mine at Lowes. And used the rest of the roll to squirrel-proof my house roof vents! :hand:

Anything you install will hurt airflow to some extent, probably the best thing to look at is simply the ratio of open to blocked area within the screen, another area where wire mesh tends to be very good.

Lowes, Home Depot, and most other hardware stores sell what is referred to as Hardware Cloth or Rat Wire. It comes in 1/4" and 1/2" weaves, and for less than 10 bucks you will have enough to cover your radiator, oil coolers, and brake ducts, intake ducts and still have enough spare material to do it all over again. Stops rocks, tire debris, and almost all but a direct hit from another car or some solid barrier.
