Atlanta majors

As I was watching the races , it dawned on me there were no FV's or FF's.

I looked at the race groupings and saw them listed no where.

Did not one of them enter or have they been stricken from the HST venue?

They used to be one of the backbones of our racing community.

SCCA has deemed them unworthily of the Majors program due to low entry numbers nationwide. I don't think they saw a way to combine the classes into other groups to include them in a schedule and I think it's a move by SCCA to be more like NASA with no formula car classes.

I think it's unfair (and untrue) to assert that the org deems them "not worthy". But you are correct that with the demise of F600 and FF getting moved to run with FC, that left FV with a too-small group and cars that could not be sorted into any other group.

And I would asset that many in this group, including myself, would be pretty hacked off if we lost track time consistently watching a half-dozen small bore cars circulating around Road America.

We've often complained that there are too many classes and too many groups. SCCA is finally doing something about it.

If you want to survive, then bring the numbers. But if you don't...sayonara.

I was working the event and kept wondering where they were as well. Are they the next Sports 2000 to evaporate? I really like those S2 cars.

It should be noted that this 'exclusion' (or more properly) 'exile' is only for certain Super Tours, mainly on the East Coast. It includes the entire small formula group (FF, F6, FV). In most, but not all, cases, this group has a makeup opportunity with its own major group at the same track during a subsequent regional weekend. This group has almost the same number of races / points opportunities as the other classes but they compete at smaller events (No Penske scouts in the stands :( ).

It is also noted that all classes, including the small formula group, compete at Conference Majors.

I loved those cars, it was the direction I wanted to go when I started racing in the 80s. But for money...

You know what's interesting about them now? They are becoming some of the most sought-after historics racers and are commanding "interesting" prices. Full fields of them are showing up at many events and they're putting on entertainment at the level of the old American Cities Racing League...contact Peter Krause if you're interested in getting involved ("but for money...")

Personally, I don't see why FF can't run with FE2 and FC/FX at HSTs. FV and F600, I get - nowhere to put them... but why kick FF to the curb too? FF and FC ran together at nationals for decades, pulling 50+ cars at most races too.

After all, FF is running with FC at the Runoffs...but I think it's the FA/FE2/P part that gave them pause with putting FF in there. Just a guess. Or maybe they needed those numbers for the Bonus Majors group?

"FX"? What's that? ;)
