More , short races. ?

We tried this in Colorado. Consensus was against the fourth race (lots of non-starters.)

With one qualifying session that's five heat cycles/weekend. Add any more practice/quals and the heat cycle count continues to rise.

Yes, Mike, I realize 200 TW tires solves that problem. Convince your fellow competitors.

While we're at it, why don't we split the Indy 500 into 5, 100 mile sprint races. After all more races is better.

Writing Roger Penske a letter right now...

<I haven't raced in 8 years but swear I'm going to again soon>

I guess I'm more of a quality not quantity person. With the longer sessions, there is more opportunity to test person and machine. Shorter sessions just seem more like autocross or drag racing. I've got plenty of local circle tracks I could go to - I still choose the SCCA style of racing.

If we're looking for longer races then we should just do Saturday practice and qualifying and with six groups have six one hour races on Sunday. Hour for lunch and an hour cumulative for clean up.

Or maybe the conflicting calls for both longer and shorter races is an indicator that we've got this about right.

I like running with the vintage guys and their many on track times even if they are short periods of time. You really only have eight hours of race time available and how you use it a personal preference. One long time makes you "feel" like you've sat around all day just to run once or twice at most. Going on track four times a day make you "feel" like you're on track all day. 15 minute time slots, 12 minutes on track, makes you have to get out, fix any issues, or make changes and then get right back into the car. You're busy all day with little sitting around. It's my belief that the sitting around waiting for your long turn on track is what eats at most people.

Qual and Race same day.

One day event -- One Qualify One Race
Two day event -- Day 1 Qualify Day 1 race -- Day 2 Qualify Day 2 Race
Three day event -- Day 1 Qualify Day 1 race -- Day 2 Qualify Day 2 Race -- Day 3 Qualify Day 3 Race

Let's people pick what days they can attend. Maybe they only pick Day 2.
