SCCA has deemed them unworthily of the Majors program due to low entry numbers nationwide. I don't think they saw a way to combine the classes into other groups to include them in a schedule and I think it's a move by SCCA to be more like NASA with no formula car classes.

I'll ask the dumb question. This problem just started and the car ran fine with this setup in the past.

Some think it is more aerodynamic, but with the way the current rules are written, I would think the difference is minimal. You also need to consider whether or not you use a high front hoop or a low one.
