Qual 1 - first group out, along with HP. It was wet, so not everyone made it out.

FP 52 Mason Workman 03:16.5
FP 7 Eric Prill 03:16.9
FP 83 Robert Bramlage 03:16.9
FP 42 Gerald Lamb 03:17.3
FP 36 Sean Powers 03:17.9
FP 37 Sam Henry 03:18.1
FP 69 Dieter Griesinger 03:35.8
FP 5 Brent Louzon 03:43.2
FP 74 Mike Gnadt 04:22.2

Good to see SoPac's Sean Powers competitive on his first trip to the Runoffs and perhaps first laps at Road America.

No question on tires this morning. I went out as more of a systems check than anything else. Sean did a nice job for his first session on the track. He did the rookie orientation last night and it was in the rain so I suspect that was very helpful!

Looks like the track was ready today - and Sargis did his annual thing of gapping the field on the first day. Good to see Kraftson up in third. Prill started off fast, but seemed to have an issue as the session went on. K-Ruck seems off his usual pace, but he has another two sessions to get there.

I would keep an eye on Charlie Campbell. I don't know how much car they brought, but he's a really fast driver in SM up here in the NE. Guys like him and Ruck should be really good in traffic and their racecraft polished.

Brian the stuff you pasted wasn't the final. I got by Don on my last lap.

Interesting session with the HP cars going out first. Mid-session after I had come in and made some adjustments I had an HP car push me off as I was going from 1 to 3. He was coming out of the pits and was to the right so I went left and then he did too. Dropped left side wheels in the grass and did a quick spin in the track heading into the T3 brake zone but didn't hit anything. Car was pushy afterward.

There's plenty more out there.

My bad. It is now updated to show you in 3rd with a 2:35.192. Nice job.
I wanted to copy the "live" before it switched to the next group - tad too early. I guess I saw your lap where you spun, then the next lap when you pitted and I figured something was not right. Glad all is OK.

FP qual 3-ended early due to caution at about 20 min mark.
Sargis again #1, but just barely over Prill. Ruck and Kannard just 1+ sec back. Wessel makes an appearance near the sharp end of the sheet. No Mason Workman for this one. As stated in this thread elsewhere, Charlie Campbell is showing some speed and holding up the SM flag in Rick Harris' absence. (David D- I know Ken also raced SM, but that was just a phase).

FP qual 4
Sargis again out in front, 1.6 sec ahead of P2 - Kannard. Bramlage is getting closer to the speed he showed last year and Mason returns after skipping yesterday. Prill wasn't as fast as he has shown in other sessions, but still starts P2.

today was the fast day. couldnt find a clean lap then had a trans problem. No Mazda party for us tonight but we'll get it back together for Friday!

What should the outcome be of one car passing another into a corner at a waving yellow flag, especially one that had been out for one full lap earlier? This yellow flag being at Canada Corner during FP qualifying while Don Kraftson's Elva is sitting at the edge of the track while being picked up by a tow truck. Someone please enlighten me.

I actually thought the track was better yesterday, but it didn't matter much, as the entire track was constantly littered with standing yellows and cars running 2:50's to do anything.

Looking forward to tomorrow though. Should be another "one of the best of the weekend" for FP. 8)

Congrads to Steve Sargis on the win in FP.

Sounds like Eric and his friends had a long night and morning doing a number of transmission swaps.

+1 - Steve looked strong, as always. Great job - dominant week.

Eric, Kannard and K-Ruck made it interesting, putting up some FAST laps while changing positions. It was great to watch - sorry to see Ken pulled off the track, then later see Kevin slow with an off-song engine.
Charlie Campbell And Bill Wessel wern't far behind the top 4 and having a good scrap. Looks like there was some contact as some point - any insight here? Charlie did a great job to get back by Sam Henry on the last lap to get the Bronze medal.

Can't wait for the insight from those in the race or at the track.

Results are still provisional. Is there a protest?

The finals are there. They're just like you saw them in real time. For some reason, in the list of stuff, the final results precede the provisionals.
If you look at the PDF version, the chief of T&S posted them at 4:25 pm, so it's doubtful there was any stewardly activity.
(I really need to figger out the significant differences between #18 and the Spitwad in my avatar. Besides the person sitting in it.)

I know both Charlie & Bill. Charlie told me he was not the aggressor. The 3rd was a inch or so.

F prod Miata folks, what are we going to do about the throttle body shafts? Seems like they keep on breaking.

The three way battle was great while it lasted. I was stationed in T5 with radio & one never knew who would be leading after T5 entering T6 or comming to T14 or up the hill on the front straight. Oh, Super Man was on point & maintaining with a eye on the rearview mirror.

Congrats again Steve(aka: SuperMan :applause: ).

Early diagnosis of my car is pointing towards the coil/ignition distibution block. It actually helps explain the wierd electrical problems/drainage I had throughout the year, but never really found the source of. This car has been my first forray into stand alone engine management systems; apparently I still have much to learn. Guess it might be time to teach myself individual coil packs. First mechanical DNF I've had in years, which is great and all, but why did it have to happen during the Runoffs?

Thanks to Eric and Ken for the fun while it lasted, and congrats to Steve, Eric, and Charlie for their podium finishes. :applause:

David,

You may want to have Ken check with Jon B or Terry Barnard as they have a method that is better than the stock unit. This issue has been around for a lot of years and came to a head at the 2006 runoffs (...sure glad I was running carbs that year).

I have a design I've yet to try and will probably fabricate a few for testing.
