Mazda Raceway Divisional

A number of Prod cars (and others) made the trip to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca last weekend for a Divisional Qualifier. Many used this weekend as a test session, even pulling in during the race for tire temps, some came to race and almost all had a great time. Awesome track but not very forgiving, saw many cars come in on the hook, some to far gone to continue. If you run wide and get lucky you only get stuck (Gordon Jones got to watch our first race from the gravel at Turn 11), others get sucked into the tire barriers.

I was "assisted" into the gravel by the E-36 driver. "He did not see me". I am going to install an air horn. :)
For the second race, my car refused to start on the grid. Getting ready for Portland.

Cool video. I wanted to give you a 50 shot of nitrous for the Mustang.;-)

As an aside and I know that no one wants to add any extra weight, have you considered installing a right side leg support similar to what the NASCAR cars have? In the unfortunate event of a crash it would keep your legs from moving around and may prevent injury.

Hi Jason,

Wow.... I saw you turned a 1:45 in one of the races... That is fast in an HP car at Laguna. Seems you got the Yaris dialed in and your ready for October. I'll be the first to predict a podium for #99. Just watch out for Gary and Gordon since they will be ready to pounce.....

I found my ideal drafting buddy at MRLS, a Spec Mustang. But it sure didn't feel fast knowing a Sprite has gone 1:43 there.

Yeah... I believe that was Brian Linn who posted a 1:43. He must of been unconscious... :p . no one has come close ever since!

It was 1:43.9, so really a 1:44. Goes to show you that even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in awhile. Jason was closer to the HP record than I got to Huffaker's FP record - 1:39.2. Back in the days when they ran Nationals at the track, the prod race was usually on Sunday AM, with nice cool temps. Many of our sessions a few weeks ago were run in the heat of the day.

FWIW, I went to my first racing school, Jim Russell at Laguna Seca in 1985. About 10 years prior to that I sat through the classroom portion of a school that my dad had signed up for, led by EFR. Before this event a few weeks ago, it had been 15 or so years since I had been on the track.
