. I have do some research and there are several transmissions that are close to a after market close ratio trans, but are much cheaper as a stock unit. Is there a bell housing available to mate different transmission to the 1.6 Miata?

i have a close ratio miata trans,it has three race weekends since it was built.jesse prather built it.we used new quaife gear set and syncros.the case is a 99,which is the preferred year.we installed it as an interim trans until the pbs got done.also have the 4.88 dif.if any of this helps my email [email protected] jess

There is not a good bellhousing available to mate an aftermarket transmission. The easiest option is the alternate synchro box that Jess has for sale. After that, a lot more work and expense is needed to adapt to an alternate box. Can certainly be done but not easy.

Yep. That's the option if you want a 40 lb bell housing. You also have to run an annular throw out bearing with that thing.

Has anyone used a stock 6-speed with 1st blocked off? It looks like it's ratios are pretty good.

I have Dean. The ratios are great but the shifting feel isn't as fantastic as the five speed. If you can get past that, it's a great cheap alternative.

I have a Boig bellhousing set up for the PBS transmission ( Cut and welded Miata bellhousing). It came as part of a spares package I got when I purchased a Boig car many years ago. This is only the bell housing. I have heard that this housing uses drop gears to interface to the PBS. I do not have the drop gears. If you are interested I can send picture. Bob sold these for $1200. I would be very happy with $250.
