Spitfire / GT 6 rear brakes

What are the difference between Spitfire and GT 6 rear brakes. I know that GT 6 brakes are a popular swap for Spitfires and the MKIII ones are supposedly the best. But what specifically are the differences? The GCR lists them all at 8".

I have a non Triumph application so I'm unfamiliar with some details. Which models are the non-rotoflex?

Thanks

Dean, since you are working on a non-Triumph application the answer as to which GT6 backing plate you need may vary. All of the GT6 drums and shoes are the same for all the years. The difference in the backing plate is related to the hole for the axle in the center of the plate and the mounting bolt holes. The mid 68-70 GT6 + had a more complex axle arrangement with a different hub carrier as well as the rubber rotoflex doughnut in the middle of each axle. If you are using a Spitfire rear axle/hub arrangement, you will want the GT6 backing plate for either the 66 through mid-68 GT6 MkI or the mid-73 on GT6 Mk3. Actually, the axle and hubs for those date GT6s are the same as the Spit parts so you could use the whole assembly if you wanted. Beware though that the axle lengths and inner u-joint flanges also vary between years and spit/GT6.

To add one last detail, the 1973 MK3 GT6 starting with # KF20001 regressed to the Spitfire style swing axle (non rotoflex). (They also used the Spit MK4 style swing spring.)
I think I recall the backing plates being different from the MK1 pieces, but not in a way that would make them unusable.
