Shoulder Harness

Have to replace the belts in Sluggo to return to HP this year and have already decided on using the SIMPSON head restraint. Is a 2" shoulder harness legal? Seems that both the Simpson and HANS are set up for this although a 3" will work. Just too lazy to look it up in the GCR.

THANKS,
Rod Hahnemann

A 2" belt is NOT legal.....Simpson (and others I'm sure) makes a 3" belt that narrows to 2" as it goes over the HANS (or whatever) and then flares back to 3" as it goes down to the latch.

This is the belt I use with my Safety Solutions (aka Simpson) HNR, fits great, I also find it was easier to get the 2" belts tighter.

Actually, a 2 inch harness is 100% legal per GCR 9.3.19 A:

"2 inch shoulder harnesses may be used only if a HANS, defender or safety solutions head restraint is worn by the driver"

provided or course you wear a H&N restraint

Make sure you buy the FIA rated belts so they are good for 5 years instead of the SFI 2 years. Price is little more, if not the same for the FIA vs SFI belts.
