Rust and scale in steel RV holding tank

Guys, my motorhome has steel holding tanks, which shed rust scale after every draining. The big plan is to replace them with plastic tanks sometime.

Since they are not leaking, any thoughts on a spray rust converter for the inside of rusty tanks? I can power wash the walls (access from both the drains below and the fill above). Thoughts? [Or clever jokes about holding tanks - but they have to be clever.]

Thanks John.

I should have added that to remove the tanks I will have to cut them out of the coach. They are not removable without disassembly. I am looking for a 1-2-3 year plan to clean and treat them in place. [If something exists.]

Peter, do a web search on derusting tanks with vinegar . I know motorcycle guys coat the tanks with por15.... I are you sure it is rust and not a health issue....:)

Ck with Eastwood. They have a gas tank sealer I have used with good results. Should hold up to all the toxic stuff you are probably putting in the tanks.
