Old question about batteries

I know somewhere its been gone over but its time for a new battery in the car and am looking to go lighter, the two I was looking at was the Braile(BR2017) and also the antigravity, the Braile will work but the one I am looking at is 17lbs, the other is the antigravity (YXT 12-20) at 5lbs, we don't run an alternator so have to charge between sessions. We run a 240z so an inline 6, The old battery was 560cca and 680ca and worked fine but came in at 24.5lbs. The antigravity is about twice the price and I am not sure the charging system I use (CTECK) would be compatible or not which is another factor. Any other recomaditions or imput ?

I bought a BRA-B129 battery a year ago. Weighs 9.5 lbs and my Midget runs at least an hour with crank trigger ignition, electric fuel pump and all the normal electric racing loads on it and will still restart the car before charging is needed. I don't run an alternator. Can't find my receipt but seem to recall I paid around $90 for it. A regular group 27 battery weighs in at 27 lbs so I really like the weight savings and it does what I need. I should mention that I plug in a group 27 to start and warm up the engine before going to grid to save as much battery power as I can.

That is what we are doing now, we get around 3 starts out of our battery, so we boost it for the initial start in the pits and normally just use one on the grid. Someone another page mentioned that the Li ion batteries may be illegal at some venues due to a potential fire hazard? Also the need special treatment for charging and jumping? Which would add to cost.
Another battery mentioned was the XS power any input on these?

Another consideration when not running an alternator is the capacity of the battery in terms of amp hours. Some of the small exotic batteries may have plenty of ampacity (ability to flow current, ie short term power output, ie cranking amps) to start but not enough energy capacity to keep fuel pump, ignition, etc alive for a full race on top of a start.

Just a thought.

I have an XS S680. It’s great and about the size of my Harley battery. As with all AGM batteries a special charger is required. Bought one from Pep-Boys for $45.00. On my EP 2nd gen RX-7 I am running an alternator so I essentially never use the charger. I guess typical of the AGM battery, it never seems to discharge from sitting. At the end of three months, over the winter, it was still fully charged. Summit has the battery for $136. After a little over a year, I’ve no complaints.
