Online registration is now open for the Labor Day Three Way
September 1-2 at MSR Houston
Featuring Double Rational Races & a PDX

What's this Three Way you speak of?
We are gearing up for the final Southwest Division race weekend of the 2012 season, and for the first time, we will be including a PDX or Performance Driving Experience for street cars and mildly prepped racecars. This portion of the event is designed for drivers interested in track driving, but not sure how to get their feet wet. Do you know of someone who's been itching to start racing, but not sure how, or if they can afford it? Send them this email and we'll take care of them! We will also be looking for volunteer instructors among our race drivers. If you are interested in being a PDX instructor, please let us know when you register online.

How the heck is this going to work with all the cars?
Here's the on track schedule for the weekend, and just to keep it simple and easy, it's the same schedule both days!

* 8 am: Group 7 PDX Mandatory Meeting in Clubhouse
* 8 am: 15-min Seamless Qualifying A Groups 1-5
* 9:30 am (approx): 20-min Group 6 PDX
* 9:55 am (approx): 20-min Seamless Qualifying B Groups 1-5
* 11:50 am (approx): 20-min Group 6 PDX
* 12:10 pm (approx): Lunch Break
* 1:00 pm (approx): 20-min Group 6 PDX
* 1:25 pm (approx): 30-min or 19-lap Rational Races for Groups 1-5

What is this "seamless" qualifying you might ask?
When possible the Houston Region strives for “seamless” qualifying sessions with the race groups. After the checkered flag and the last car of the first Group exits the track, the staged Group will be released. Clean up will be after the every other Group. Any stranded cars from the initial Group will be covered by the appropriate flag(s) for the following session.

What about race groups? Who do I have to race with this time?
Our goal is to keep everyone happy, and allow everyone the opportunity to have the best race. But, sometimes we have to have small compromises. If you have and feedback on the groupings, you can send it to Sydney. Below is a list of the race groups, in order. Remember, those classes with a (*) are regional only classes.

1. SRF, FV, F5, FST*
2. BG*, EP, FP, GTL, HP, ITA*, ITB*, ITC*, LC*, SPB*, SRX7*, SSC, STL, STU, T3
3. SM , SM5*
4. AS, GT1, GT2, GT3, GTA*, ITE*, ITR*, ITS*, SP*, SSB, ST*, STO, T1, T2
5. ASR*, CSR, DSR, FA, FB, FC, FE, FM, FS*, S2, FF, CF*
6. PDX

Where the heck do I register for this thing?
Online registration is now open at (http://www.motorsportreg.com/index.cfm/ ... 221045AF30). Be sure to double check your entry and make sure you selected the correct format in which you are eligible and able to receive points (Regional or National).

What if I'm not sure of something?
Don't sweat the small stuff! Send us an email, and we'll answer all your questions, or find out who can. (clubracing[@]houscca.com)

Cage is done. Ordering belts, fire system, window net and such. It is going to take a miracle for me to make it I'm afraid.

What are you building Jerry? Another Supra.

Family events/issues make my appearance at the race doubtful at best.

2001 Camaro SS for STO, AS, T1.

Too much competition in EP. Though I'd be different this time. Did I mention the Camaro was totaled by the insurance company and I was able to buy it back cheap?

Sunday is below from the online form.

8 am 15-min Seamless Qualifying A Groups 1-5
9:30 am (approx) 20-min Group 6 PDX
9:55 am (approx) 20-min Seamless Qualifying B Groups 1-2
11:50 pm (approx) 20-min Group 6 PDX

What is Qual A and Qual B if they are both for all groups on Sat. and groups 1-2 on Sun?

Can't say that I like the pricing of the 2 day $450 racing/$150 PDX. Track time has been reduced for racers from a typical weekend resulting in same price less value. You might pick up some PDX cars as $150 is half the price that NASA is getting. On the flip side, NASA is only getting $300 for racers. If this is going to be the norm you will gain PDX cars and lose racers. Registered anyways as it's the last race of the year.

That was a typo on my part... All groups get two qualifying sessions that both count toward that day's race. Basically, if you run the first session and can't make the second session, or vice versa, you still have times from one session to grid you for the race.

The track time for racers is in fact exactly the same as it has always been for this event. Usually, we list the race at 35 minutes, but the stewards change it to 30 minutes due to the heat. I was just proactive and made it 30 to begin with. Also, by combining the 6 groups to 5, and introducing the seamless qualifying, we found the additional time needed for a PDX. I hope that makes sense.

Thanks for the clarification Sydney. The 2 qualifying sessions per day are a nice change.

Saturday we did both Q's in the dry and then it starts to rain. Rain hard off and on. Prod Race was a spin-a-rama. I dug my old rains out of the recycle trailer and put the better ones on front and a new set on the rear. Got 2nd overall, but it was a scary time. David Koller was right behind me after the rain slacked up (STU Solstice). He played ALMS racer and flashed his lights at me down each straight only to catch me right at the braking zone. Well his braking zone, I just did a lift, turn, and plant. That went on for about 8 laps. Great fun as David and I are the best of friends and past race partners.

Andrew Robertson did great job of just driving away from the first lap madness and stayed about a straight in front of me. I had a pretty good Tonga line down the last straight, but once again they just couldn't reel me in. Hardest I've worked in a car since last runoffs.

Saturday:
Andrew Robertson EP
James Rogerson HP
Mark Buskuhl EP
Rick Kosdroski EP
Luis Rivera GTL
Jim Robertson EP-Reg
James Smith FP
Peter Outarsingh EP

Sunday:

Andrew Robertson EP
Rick Kosdroski EP
James Rogerson HP
James Smith FP
Jon Stautberg EP
Jim Robertson EP-Reg
David Stautberg FP-Reg
Peter Outarsingh EP

James R.
HP #66 out of mothballs ready for someone to take to the front of the Runoffs.

Thumbs up to Houston region for a very well run event and great schedule. Hopefully we can have more of the double qualifiers on the schedule next year throughout the division. The "seamless" part is how every event should be run, last car exits - first car on. Didn't feel like a normal sit around and wait kind of weekend but of course I stayed busy with a blown radial on Friday, splitter left on track Saturday and a new motor that quit running Sunday.

Thanks Mark! Glad you enjoyed the event, but I wish you luck could have been better. Hopefully, I'll get to join in the fun next time. We'll be sending out a survey to the drivers, volunteers and crews. We encourage those who attended, and those who couldn't, to give us some feedback.

Thanks again!
