Here's a link to a CA engineer who is scratch building a rear engined "Lotus 7" called the Midlana.....I guess it will be a track car. Unbelievable craftsmanship.

Click on the "build diary" to admire his work and wish you were as skilled. ;^)

Not too impressed with the design of that roll cage, any of you engineers care to weigh in?

While I can only aspire to such fab skills, I really enjoyed this part.

Summed up, if reading about birds is a bother, just don't read it. I add such things because there's more to life than just cars - it'll get done regardless. Small diversions like this serve to keep people - okay, me - grounded in what's important. So there.

Cage wouldn't pass muster in any current racing sanction, most likely, but it is not all that different from 962 Porsche cages from the "good 'ol days".

James,

Don't underestimate this engineer..........this guy knows EXACTLY the compromise he made leaving out the 2 top bars. Probably modeled the chassis stiffness with and without them. Clearly he left them out for EZ access over the non door....doors. Adding them later would also be EZ.

Anyway, the TRUE point is to appreciate his design and fabrication skills. Don't tell my bride but I guess you don't actually NEED a garagemahal to build a masterpiece. Looks like a small 2 car tract house garage to me.

Thanks, Jay
