Canfield turned a 1:27:54 in Saturday morning qualifying session. Didn't run the 10 lap qualifying race in the afternoon. His qualifying time was less than .1 sec off the class record. His time put him on the pole for HP as well AS THE OVERALL POLE!!

In the Sunday race, he got a good start and ended up with a first in class and a third overall behind two SPU Miata's.

It was a great weekend of racing and I don't think I have ever enjoyed crewing any more than I did this weekend.

It was a great weekend at the Point. It was a little on the warm side but doable. I think the really hot race weekends are a good tone up for me so that I will be comfortable in my place in hell once this life is over. :D

The Small Bore Prod group had a good race without a lot of drama, although Jim Stem launching over the left rear wheel of Frank Jones bugeye was quite a sight in T5 on lap one. I was able to squirt past the incident and find myself in third in HP and eighth overall until five laps later when Frank, Al Seim, and Carolyn Broring came rocketing past me in a pack on the exit of T10 with their "real" H Prod cars.

Randy seemed like he had fun, although I heard from him that he spent most of the weekend looking for his sunglasses that he kept "misplacing". I personally view every race weekend that I get to race with "the Master" as a gift from God himself and I treasure each of them.

Dave, I was going to ask what race you were watching that had no drama, as there was quite a bit of drama in both T1 and T5 on that first lap, as evidenced by chunks of Frank's fiberglass that remained scattered all over T5 for the next few laps and the giant and somewhat un-aerodynamic hole that remained in his car, but that apparently didn't have much effect on his capabilities. I got collected up in the mess and got nailed on the front left by the flying volvo. Sorry that Jim didn't get the finish, but it was an exciting start and I continued after having Tom do a quick check for damage.

Thanks for crediting me for having a "real" HP car. It was running great (thanks, Tom) but unfortunately, I was fighting like mad to regain positions lost in that melee, and while using Al and Frank as a pick to get by you, I was also going at lap down at that time as they rocketed past. ~Sigh~.

But overall everyone made a pretty decent showing of it, especially as blazing hot as it was, and congrats to all the winners, including BIL Charlie in his FP car who fought a host of problems all weekend but still pulled out a nice finish.

I got caught in the accordion effect on the start and did not enter T1 with the pack so I saw no drama there. I did arrive at T5 in time to see the drama there (and got it on video) but I was too busy capitalizing on the misfortune of others and encouraging Mr. Reed to get moving to really gawk at the flying Volvo.
Although Frank's car could not be that hurt with the way he ran after the incident. Although it does not look good with only one rear fender.
For the next several laps I was having to wrestle with the STL civic of Dr. Kai Noeske, we ran each other hard and close but never touched.

I had fun. Hopefully we can do it again in October.

That video is from Bob Crawford's "Galloping Grape" Dodge Colt.
Shocking.
Thanks to Bob for posting it to the internet.

Obviously, the miata pilot needs some "counseling".

Well, yes, and then there was THAT. I knew he was there, gave him a big ol' point by to the left way up at the top of the chute, lifted to give him plenty of time to make the pass. I'm good about giving the point, I knew he was the front runner, I knew where I stood in the grand scheme of things and had no problem with the point-by.

Then he hit the grass. No reason, as he had plenty of room and the outside line was not particularly messy there, but whatever. I watched him bouncing down the grass next to the tire wall. I'm lifting, then on the brakes, waiting; then on the gas attempting to get by anticipating the snap across the track - behind me hopefully; no -wait, off the gas as apparently he's still got his foot all the way down; what in the he&& is he going to do? Is he going to discover that he has brakes? No brakes? About the time he actually seemed to slow up - as if he'd found brakes - I put my foot down and committed to the turn, way, way to the outside only to see that he decided not to slow up and just about collected the side of my car.

Um. Yeah. There was that, too.
