190 530 13 radials vs 20x8 canti's

Ok so I am finally making the switch to radicals. Just want to know if the 190, radials are close to the same grip level of the 20x8, or should I go for the 215 530? Thanks

I cant comment as to the grip level, but from my experience the 13" radials are narrow, so run the bigger if your wheels car take it.

You are switching to radials but you don't know whether they grip as well?? I guess there are other reasons to make the switch, but I can't imagine that you would knowingly give up grip just to take advantage of those characteristics.

The good news for you is that it doesn't seem like you will have to settle for less grip. I don't have any empirical data but my lap times with both the narrow 190's as well as the wider 215's have been similar and in some cases faster than the bias ply's. I have run 190R's, 190S's and 215S's and they all have turned similar lap times on the tracks that I have been on.

The standard way of thinking on the two widths for a rear wheel drive car has been, on tracks with long straights and not much of a premium on handling go with the 190's as they have less rolling resistance. On tracks where handling is king, go with the 215's. On a FWD Rabbit things might be different - maybe 215's on the front and 190's on the rear. Someone will no doubt help you with that.

If you're going with the Radials, on a Wabbit, run the 215's up front on a 7" rim, and the 190's on the rear on a 6" rim.

That's what I would do.

I'm still on the 20x8x13 BIAS on a 13x6 rim. Once I fix the ignition and the outer CV issue, then I'll look for something else to chase.

i can see how that sounds weird. more so the switch is due to it is getting harder to find the 20x8's from my experience and the radials seam to be more plentiful. it sounds bad but i run used takoffs and just converting to the radials, like i said because they seam to be easier to find.

I run the 20x8x13's to the cords before I dump them. 8-10 heat cycles, at least in the front. The rears obviously last a lot longer.

How many "effective" heat cycles are folks getting out of the radials? Just wondering what is normal. I have two heat cycles on the set I just bought and want to plan when to have the next set ready. Thanks!

What compound are those bias ply tires?

They are r45 compound. $50 each and i have 14 of em. I will separate em out or can palate them all up as one shipment.

For the Hoosier radials, I run alignment and pressures similar to the DOT tires. roughly -3 camber front, -1 rear (solid axle car), 0 toe. verify that with pyrometer and seat-of-pants, but that's a rough start.
