Title: Change Requests

Class: GCR

Request: The following was sent to the BoD, and at the request of my Director I'm also submitting it to get it on the CRB calendar:

My primary involvement with SCCA is in the Road Racing program, but I am writing this to the BoD because it applies to all SCCA programs.

As currently is the case with Road Racing and Solo (and probably other programs I'm not familiar with,) member letter submissions are not visible to the rest of the membership. Over the years I have heard this defended as a protection of privacy. Why? We're not a health care provider and we don't need the equivalent of HIPAA.
One of the earliest things I learned when I first joined in 1967 was an example of a particularly egregious case of self dealing involving a change allowing aftermarket alloy wheels in the production category. Things have improved since those days but there remains a perception that self dealing still happens.

The single best way to overcome this perception would be to make available a digitized copy of the exact request including identifying the member or staff person making it. Not only would this make it possible for all members to see the request, the resulting response from the membership would provide the BoD and program boards and committees a better, faster feedback mechanism about the proposal. That feedback and the accompanying peer response to the originator would either reinforce the request or provide a disincentive to make self serving requests. The overall effect would also be to reduce the volume of requests, and reducing staff, boards and committees' review time.

I also understand that current SCCA IT capacity may not be capable of supporting such a large database. I would hope any new systems considerations would include sufficient capacity.

In political terms, this would be using sunshine as a disinfectant.

The letter submission system is a CRB function, not a BOD function. The BOD oversees the CRB.

Your letter should have been directed at your BOD reps, with an agreement that they would pursue it further.

Prediction: #TYFYI

Maybe that's why there's already a CRB letter number at the top of the post? :)

You misunderstand.

CRB letter = #TYFYI.

BoD rep support and action on their end = a better possibility.

Fortunately, web page submissions are low-impact and no trees were killed in this process.

Ok, here's the sequence of events:
1. Discussed the issue with my BoD member. He suggested I send a letter to the BoD
2. Using the obscenely obscure on line link which is just [email protected], submitted the letter.
3. That process does not generate a letter number.
4. Brought this to my Director's attention. He suggested using the CRB system to get a letter number.
5. Submitted the same letter using the online CRB submission process, getting a letter number back.

So, no, I don't misunderstand. I started with the BoD after an encouraging exchange with my Director.

Yes, you do misunderstand.

What you just described is the #TYFYI (and "go ask your momma") process.

But, at least you asked. We'll watch for the response in Fastrack.

What are you suggesting? That I should have gone to the CRB first then the BoD? You seem to have adorned an us vs them superman cape. I much prefer to treat my fellow club members as club members.

I have more #TYFYI t-shirts if you want one Peter... :D
I have no illusions about how this will play out. I consider what I've done so far to be only the first two/three rounds in a protracted sparring match. I have a very clear idea of how to respond regardless what form/format the formal replay takes.

IMHO the local BOD guys have brushed off most things .
They dont return emails or calls .
Send a letter . Ask for input from the club .
My submission was at the request of my Director (BoD Member.) We have talked several times since my arrival in SEDiv. I've never understood why more members don't talk to their Director. Over the past 58 years I've been a member of four different regions in four different Divisions and four different Area's. I've never found a Director unapproachable. To the contrary, they've always taken my calls and we've always had productive conversations even including Carl Haas. And I'm not exactly supportive of everything that's gone on in the club and they well know that.

I have been pushing for a 200TW class for 20 yrs. Trying to encourage chumpcar peeps to show up , only to get crapped on by tech . Ive given up on that ..
I have introduced lots of new blood to CFR only for them to be harassed, mostly by tech. Those techs have moved on and things are much nicer now .
For now, we focus on my Son's Current racing and Champcar. ITEZ . Ive kinda moved on . We still have the VW HP car and have a faster version OTW.
So yeah . I bring it on my self , trying to get SCCA to move to the modern century and reduce the membership losses.
