Still sorting the engine. Boy do these engines have a lot of parts!

That's one slick paint job! Always like looking at a black paint job done well, but never wanted to do the work to get there!

You know, most people don't already have a rocket-ship in a class, and then build a different one, for the same class. Just going for the other end of the EP weight spectrum?

Looks awesome though. There use to be an EP 914-6 that ran up here on occasion that was gorgeous, maybe 8-10'ish years ago.

Nice looking car!
I believe it was Eric Madsen who had that 914-6 in EP at one of the early '00 runoffs. Ended up on the podium that year.

Very nice looking car.

Yeah, Madsen was running a EP 914-6 back at the 04 OR 05 Ruboffs. I was there helping him and the FP 914s when Kirby's car last ran. That was a pretty cool weekend for the 914s. However it was probably their last Hoorah at the big show.

There were eight of us in 914's in 2005...and yes I guess you could say it was the last hoorah.

914 pilots included : Mark Hotchkis driving and winning FP in the Kirby car, Ray Anderson from TX, Kevin Groot, Eric Madsen 3rd in EP, Chris Foley, Steve Limbert, Les Handly (RIP) and myself.

I've never seen the Kirby car again. I think Dave Finch has or had possession of it.
Foley and Limbert still own and operate 914 race prep shops.
Limbert acquired Les's car and it is seen mostly on display. It was rumored to be the first 914 imported into this country.

Kip's car looks very similar to the Kirby car but I suspect without the price tag. D.Finch prepared the Kirby car and the price tag was rumored to be in the $000,000 range.

We had 44 starters in FP back then with everyone having "earned " the invitation.

It may have been the last hoorah but I'd also consider it the "good ole days".

Kip's car is Len Hoffman's old car. Per Len:

Quote:
...the car was sold to a super nice customer of mine (and Chris's) in Texas who was already running a CVAR 914. I pretty much gave him the car at the end of the 2010 season to get it out of my shop to make room for growth. I was seriously burned out time and $$ wise at that point. Mike Floyd came East to pick it up and run a SAARC at Rd Atl. Enjoyed it but decided he was more at home with his CVAR buddies.

He sold the car through a brokerage to someone in SC who requested anonymity. I watched entry lists for the next few years but never saw it. That was the last I heard of the car till Kip called me to ask about it's provenance.

Can't tell you how pleased I am that it landed in his hands. Someone with all the required abilities to do well with it. I had pretty much resigned myself to the idea that it was stripped for parts and the chassis rusting in weeds somewhere.

BTW, once we sorted out a proper dry sump arrangement our only freshening was to the heads. T4 heads are structurally weak due to design shortcomings. You pretty much have to treat them as consumables on a 10/10's race engine. But a well prepped T4 bottom end is pretty durable if you oil it properly. With modern ceramic chamber and exhaust port coatings along with exterior heat shedding coatings a full season is doable with heads if they aren't overheated.
