As you all are aware the Autocross side of the club has had an index system for many years. I believe we should have one in Road Racing.
We have the data from thousands of lap times to determine what the index for a class at a given track should be. Applying the index to the over all results can show which driver in what class completed his race the quickest. It would be a way to compare which driver, no matter the class, did the best job on a given day.
In autocross being in the top 5 on index is as important as winning your class. Maybe more so.
If there is Excel whizkid out there, ask Ed Prill for the data.
While there are a lot of variables, the same is true at an Autocross event. It has worked for them for years.

Is this a way to rank all drivers in club racing no matter whether they are in a good car or bad car, GT1 or B-Spec?

Can it be done? Probably.

Should it be done? Probably not.

There are a few more variables in road racing, an example of which is race length, that would have to be rationalized to make this work. At some point, the juice isn't worth the squeeze.

That aside, we still don't have consistent results being submitted to the national office.

Can we get a mod to ban this guy?

Pax is for guys that can't win their class. *said as a 25+ year autocrosser. You want to see how you stack up? The answer is the same for autox as road racing, go to the big events and race with the fast guys. You wont get faster playing with a calculator.

First one to the checkered flag is my PAX score. Frankly, I don't care how my theoretical best compares to a GT1 of FV. Not unless you're going to give me another ashtray or coffee mug for it.

Very, very much no from me. Absolutely pointless in autocross, even more so in road racing.

you should tell that to my coworker friend who drive a B-stock WRX.. he's usually top-3 in PAX each weekend and comes in beating his chest when he's top cone-chaser. Then I show him the awesomely huge trophy I won club racing and he shuts up.

So I should be proud that I won a one or two car class.
I am curious how I might stack up against the driver who wins GT-1 or FV. I know I could just go buy one, but I want to see if I am getting the most out me and my equipment.
The variables are what they are. If rains in the AM and is dry in the PM, that's the breaks.
I enjoy racing against the best in my class ( shows me how far I have to go), but sometimes there isn't any of them around.
SO none the responses have been positive. I still think this neat idea.

PAX isn't an official SCCA program. It was designed and is administered by Rick Ruth completely offline. So, go ahead. Design and administer anything you want. You can even offer trophies. Just don't expect Topeka or the regions to participate.

Since the layout of our tracks rarely change, unlike AutoX, this is what track records are for. Who's beating them, by how much, and who had it before.
