John, (As always) great job.

Do you mind if this be reposted to other SCCA race sites with credit?

Thank you,
Peter Zekert

John, it says under contact that it is "never" allowed. Yet we see bump drafting all the time and it is "never' policed by the stewards. If you would like examples please watch ANY SM race. Until all rules are properly followed, these words will fall on def ears. But its a nice idea.

Check your GCR. 6.11.1.A. states that drivers must, "avoid physical contact".

The stewards take a commonsense reading of that rule. If two drivers choose to cooperate by following nose-to-tail, and the trailing car's bumper cover touches the leading car's, we do not see a problem in the context of the rule.

Any sort of non-consensual touching; any making contact that upsets the car in front; or any in a braking zone or not on a straight is subject to the rule.

And 'bump drafting' is a misnomer. Drafting really, really close with a cooperating driver is OK; bumping is not. Any driver who gets bumped is right to object.
