Help! We are converting an NB 99 SM Miata to champcar and WRL configuration. The stock miata as required in SM has a Porsche 911 style loop cooler which seemed to work OK in SM...…….but I wonder if it is adequate over a 24 hour stint. Anyway, looking for something super EZ to install and mount if possible.....ideally it should be compatible with an accusump which will be installed late summer.

Got any supplier leads or even something used?

Thanks, Jay c 317-473-2124

Jay, being you went to the dark side some number of years ago why not go to the dark side site and ask your current question. Several of those first class folks do enduro races with Miata's.

I'm going out on a limb and opining that if the oil temp is OK after 40 minutes it will be OK forever. With the possible exception of "if the oil gets low" which may not be an insignificant factor. Does the stock / SM spec NB have an oil cooler already?

Didn't the 1.8 Miatas all come with a sandwich type oil to water heat exchanger? Might look at retrofitting that instead of going all out with an aftermarket air to oil cooler.

just comparing reasonable responses from dark side and prod side. I have not seen the NB car but I believe NA and NBs had a Porsche 911 style simple tube cooler in the left front.

No miata ever came with an air to oil cooler.

I think I am confused...…......all the more reason to install a cooler. A production rx7 unit might make a lot of sense although I would guess that is overkill.

Jay, The miata has a baby 911 looking tube (air to oil) cooler in the front, but it cools power steering fluid
Engine oil is cooled by the water/oil cooler under the filter or no cooling.

ah!!!! that is what I remember and it is for the PS system. What do you think of an RX7 cooler for an endurance NB SM car? Too big.....that would be a nice problem to have!! Thanks for straightening me out!

So what do you think of that cooler?? Jay
