I having some crack repair tig welding done on the Spridget racecar.

I have removed the Electromotive ignition system.

I have disconnected the wired AMD transponder including ground wire.

It is mounted to the chassis using the holes in the plastic case.

Should I remove it from the chassis before welding?

Thanks for your expertise.

John

Properly grounded, your welder shouldn’t damage your transponder. I left mine attached to my chassis and disconnected while welding several times.

unless it's at risk from direct heat exposure, I wouldn't worry about it. I've welded on my cars roughly a bazillion times and never bothered disconnecting anything. never an issue.

 Tough decision, two bolts to remove the transponder versus used transponder cost of $450.00.

Unhook one wire, weld. You could remove it faster than read this ..
