Jim,

I was going to try to track down an original pair of Turner hinges to go on the 950S I got from you last year, or possibly fabricate some facsimiles, but I think I'll just leave the doors pinned. It's literally more "historic" without the hinges!

It was quite a while ago I worked on making the hinges on my MGB a bit lighter.
If you have some time and a drill press you can do this.
Don't remember what the weight reduction was, but I remember I could measure it on a bathroom scale.

and the leg of the hinge that fits in the door is way longer than it needs to be. Just sayin'

Hollow bolts of two type. Body drilled through or tube bolts with head welded on and heat treated.

If the goal is to lighten the car there are about a dozen "tapping plates" related to the door hinges that can also be lightened.
The original stock parts are made from fairly heavy steel bar.
The screws that fasten the hinges to the car and doors to the hinges thread into these plates.
Since these plates are near the front of the car and about as far away from the centerline of the car as they can be, lightening them offers a number of benefits.
