so the 1st line for the LP - level 2 drive train reads:

2. Drive Train Level 2
a. Drive train Component Modification
1. Stock and permitted alternate components of the drive train can be modified by any mechanical
or chemical means. Modification of a drive train component does not permit relocation of
that component.

Just trying to get a grasp of what is meant by "any mechanical or chemical means" means. internal coatings / part coatings, rem, chemical lightning, etc.? This statement is a wide berth and looking to see where the edges are for this.

I believe that was a clarification for coatings and/or REM treatments

Just remember that a general rule like that cannot trump any other specific rule. So whatever it is that you're thinking about doing, be real sure that there's nothing else in the rulebook that relates more to the specific part you're looking to modify, and has rules there that might frown upon what you're thinking.

it originally was for internal coatings, rem treatments, and the like but started to get me thinking of other stuff that we are privy to with the aerospace stuff we do. Not looking to restart the intake debacle (which was dumb in my opinion but i understood it), just looking to see input to what people thought it meant/interpreted (ie, internal/external coatings not mentioned anywhere else in the rules). but kevin, isn't prod like f1 where you have to explore the outer limits to get that little edge over everyone? Then package and market your success to be a scca millionaire? hehehe.

Many people in racing wind up with a small fortune, after starting racing with a large fortune.

IMO, this rule actually covers a broad range of potential modifications - drill, file, machine, REM, EDM etc.

So most drive train parts can be modified - subject as Kevin points out, to a lot of specific restrictions.

So if you (silly example) want to drill a hole in your driveshaft, and no specific rule says otherwise, you can.

^^^ Agreed.

The important clause is the other specific rule piece.

Most of the greater performance enhancing areas are protected in prep level 2 - generally speaking of course.
