Does anyone know if it would be legal to run a RX8 transmission in a RX7 IF 6th gear is removed or disabled?

Yes, but have to run weight for alternate box. Run 09 or newer box or they will kill 3rd gear very often.

Thanks Steve, I wasn't sure about the weight penalty etc. I found it in the gcr 9.1.5.5 but I wanted to be sure! Thanks again

I'm selling a Prather built gear box with straight cut Houseman gears. Perfect close ratio box for an RX-7. I have not put it up on the for sale site yet, let me know if you are interested.

Ooooo more money to blow on this dad-blasted black hole of noise.... Steve, what's your asking price?

I'm running a close ratio Miata box right now, but it's still a synchro box and I need moah fastah to beat the green snot rocket.

Matt, it's still a synchro box but with ultra close ratio's. Much closer than the Miata gears. That plus all of the gears are straight cut. Jamie Houseman made the gear set.

This is a great gear box for an RX-7. My car is over weight so I'm going to get a dog ring box. The trans was a fresh build for the runoffs. It's got less than an hour of run time and is in perfect condition. I also have a second identical box but 3rd gear is broken and so is the input shaft.

I'd take $3,000 for the whole lot.

Jesse is familiar with both units since he built and has maintained them.

Thanks,

Steve

Steve, not sure that I'm a buyer, but my Emco gearset is getting a bit old. Could you post the gear ratios when you get a chance?

Paul

The gear ratios are as follows;

1st - 1.740:1
2nd - 1.399:1
3rd - 1.151:1
4th - 1.000:1
5th - 0.905:1

I ran a 5.11 rear end, I have one of those as well as a 4.88 I will be selling.

Thanks

Steve

Thanks, Jesse. Mine is the early "mazdacomp" box from the early 90s. no idea the gear ratios, but I know I can't replace any gears or shafts as I haven't found another one. It uses 1.6 Miata synchros though, so rebuilds aren't that bad assuming I can still get the Miata parts.

but I think I'm looking for a dog box next.. just not sure what I want because it seems that many of the common boxes don't do well with 9000rpm.
