The best HP cars are about the same as the best SM as a rule . Almost Never faster. If so maybe the SM is 2 MPH faster at the most .

Gee, maybe someone should protest the full prep H cars because of them being faster through the corners or the limited prep cars because of them being faster in a straight line. :boohoo:

I use SM as a gauge for a fast HP car. Seems to work well at a variety of different tracks.

Here are the pole times for the last few Runoffs:

.................HP........SM
VIR ..... … 02:14.8 … 02:14.5
Sonoma … 01:54.1 … 01:54.4
Indy …..... 01:57.4 … 01:58.3
Mid Ohio … 01:40.4 … 01:40.5
Daytona … 02:17.4 … 02:18.7

Jesse-
Was Matt running without the restrictor when in EP mode?

Brian, I don't know for certain - but I went back and looked, and his fastest lap was in SM (2:40.1) vs EP (2:40.6)

Here's a link to the results:

I think he ran a 2:37.5 in qualifying and I see a 2:38.366 in race 1 with the EP set up. I do see the 2:40.6 you refer to in race 2.

In short, using Matt's EP times in his SM car without a restrictor, for really anything, is pointless...

...unless you care how much faster a restrictor-less SM miata goes.

Was he also using slicks instead of SM7s? did he do anything else non-SM legal? Was he even really TRYING to drive the car? blah blah blah.

there was only one other car in class who wasn't even on the same lap at the end, so there was no need for Matt to do anything stronger than make laps and finish. So ANY times done by that car over the weekend are subject to dozens of "what ifs"..

Just my $0.02. :)
