I suggest you check the July 2018 issue of SportsCar (or March 1984 if you still have it  ) for a turn by turn of Sonoma. Of interest to Prod/GTL drivers will be Joe Huffaker's input on the track, and his car.

I'll check it out.

Right now I'm "on track" (heh) to make the runoffs for the first time in 6 years. I'm not happy with my driving, plus I think there's some more low-hanging performance fruit waiting for me to spend myself up a place or two.... so I'm still tentative but > 50% chance now.

Paddock maps released today in an e-mail from SCCA.

Keep in mind, Lot 2 South and the Terrace are gravel

Tim in terms of desirability, what areas would someone want? I'm going to be sleeping in my truck camper attached to my car trailer.

Rather not have grass, but gravel is probably OK as I'm used to it at HPR.

Thanks

My choices would be:

#1. Main Paddock
#2. Upper Paddock

Then the South Lot 2 lower and the terrace. I'm not sure what they will be providing to Lot 2 as far as porta potties, etc. But it's normally a dirt trailer overflow parking lot. I hope they water it down everyday to keep the dust down. This would be like the turn 5 paddock @ Laguna Seca in 2014. I was cleaning dust and dirt out of the car/trailer/truck for months.

The upper paved paddock, in the past been worker camping, so again, not sure what amenities they are going to be providing.

The terrace might be a little bit nicer, but it's really close to the track, so it will be quite noisy. I've only seen vendor midways in that area. I also don't know that type of "security" they will be providing at the terrace, since it's right next to grandstands / spectator areas.

I guess it is official, I won't be attending. Too many things piling up and not enough cash on hand to pay for it. We are selling our house in NH and if that had come through in time I could have pulled it off money-wise. Too bad because I think the Spridget should do well at that track, although Jason and the Yaris won both races there earlier this year. Wish I was going.

Anyone from the east looking to ship a car to Sonoma, the McCall's have a space open on their transporter:

SCCA friends, we are exploring the option of making room in the hauler for a 3rd car to go with us to Sonoma, split some of the costs, and paddock under our tent. The truck will depart from Joliet, IL on October 10. If you're interested, please let me know and I will share some details.
