Dan,

I'm interested in what you may find.

Thanks,

*** EDIT This engine has been sold***

I sent Dan an email about a billet 948 crank, but it's in a Huffaker dry sumped engine. Steve Hussey built it at the beginning of the Lotus H prod experiment but went the way of the Ford 1500 for FP. If I could get my car down close to the 948 min weight (1420#?) I would give it a try. Someone is going to get a deal on this.

I too have a full prep 948 available with a billet crank and cam (for sale currently - contact for details). It’s in wet sump config but could easily be converted to a dry sump. Even at the 1440# I can get the car down to, the 948 is all but obsolete in H. Can’t compete with the torque from 1.6 and 1.8L cars. Lap times are still pretty quick, but you get swallowed at the start every time.

Gonna need 2 "first borns" to pay for this one.

Brian -

Who bought it? Do they need another top notch 948?

The buyer visits these boards so he will let you know. I don't think he needs two at this point, but if the deal was good enough, you never know. Good luck with the sale.
I would like to try a 948 if I could get the car down to weight. I realize the torque deficit but a 948 at 1577lbs still holds the lap record at Laguna and Willow Springs. Doing one good lap on your own doesn't meant that it would race well with some of the former GP cars, as shown by the torque-monster 1275LP.

Yea, that’s definitely the experience I had Brian. I’ve been within 1 sec of the lap record (at the time of the race I was in) at 3 tracks with the 948 when on my own and can keep the momentum up in the corners. But, the torque disadvantage killed me and I got swallowed at the starts. Then again, I’m a shitty driver at the start anyway, so that was some to blame as well!

I have a full prep 948 prepared by Midwest Motorsports (George Bauchman) with a race prepared crank that I will sell at a very reasonable price just to get rid of it. This is a very competitive engine.
