Most railroads went to weigh-in-motion scale systems for that very reason. Accuracy was better and they almost always tested good. I can't say the same for the old beam scales. They almost always needed adjustment. Just don't let lightening visit anywhere in close proximity. I spent 10s of thousands of dollars solving that issue.

I can imagine railroads and lightning are a fun thing. miles and miles of large steel rails to conduct strikes. no matter how well you ground that stuff, there's still potential difference.
