Something similar to this was tried for the 50th at Road America... this isn't meant to be a one -off..

Thank you for submitting a request/input to the Club Racing Board. The details of your request can be found below.
Letter ID Number: #27962
Title: expand quality/quantity/prestige/benefit of winning a Runoffs
Class: Strategic
Request: It's time to face the reality that the quality and quantity of Runoffs efforts are drying up. Those of us who are getting older have a tougher time of justifying the effort to compete at the Runoffs. Not that we don't want to go, we just have other interests that beckon also. Running a year long effort just isn't in the cards anymore.

SCCA has attempted to bolster entries by allowing anyone with a pulse to qualify and attend the Runoffs in recent years. To people such as myself it has lessened the Runoffs to more of a glorified Regional.

There is a simple way to ad some pizazz to winning a Runoffs Championship. Currently, the previous years Champion can show up and pay the entry and get in the race. A nice perk.

How about extending the perk that any previous champion can attend the Runoffs in any class by paying an entry fee equal to: the Runoffs entry (SCCA gets it) plus an average of 3 entries in their division of record (to be split amongst the regions in that division). Call it Runoffs (1000) + Division (3x700=2100) So for 3100 to 3500 a previous Runoffs champion can attend any Runoffs they desire. The SCCA and the Divisions get their cash, and winning the Runoffs has added tangible benefits.

I personally know of 2 previous champions who would utilize this to continue participating. It is likely that even with out the need. they would attend 1 or 2 races around the country to practice or stay sharp, thus SCCA and the regions will still get the "entry" fees they need.

There are no losers in the above scenario...

Thanks for your consideration... Dave
