Fiat X1/9 in FP and HP - I measured the street car and got 54mm/2.126"
Haven't been able to find any documentation to confirm.

Chuck,

I believe the 1780 Scirocco had the same throttle body as the 1715 Scirocco's - they definitely do not have the larger Golf throttle body. I will check.

Bob, I will update the list with your Fiat info.
I think all 1780 VWs had the big throttle body.
Thanks Chuck

Chuck, I measured the Scirocco 1.8L throttle body and it is the smaller, 35/44. It would be nice if the prod committee allowed the larger throttle body and the necessary porting of the intake to accept it!! thanks

is this for adhoc?

Yeah why?

Our World Challenge car makes just over 500 horsepower and the restrictor is like 44mm. For 99% of what's above, the throttle isn't what is controlling the power.

And I believe the Festiva has a 45mm throttle body (on the EFI setup - don't know what the carb is). I can check it tomorrow.

Ummmm - aren't all A1 CIS VW throttle bodies the same size?

FP 1588s have a specific line entry for the bigger one, all others including 1780 should be the same I think.....

Al Seim
HP Scirocco 1.6

edited - had incorrect dimension

Pretty sure the A1 GTI had the bigger one. For sure the early 90s convertible did. I thought the 85-88 non 16v scirocco did too. I will double check.

I think a better question than "why?" would be "why not?" I hope that the numbers gathered here are just for reference, that they are not printed in the rule book unless verified by factory parts manuals, and if in error, they do not "accidentally" legalize a non-stock throttle body.

All the A1 VW 1.8L "JH" solid lifter engines had the 35/44 throttle bodies, the larger throttle bodies were on the A2 hydraulic lifter RD, HT - CIS GTI engines and all digifants.

All 8v MK2 Scirocco's from 1983 thru 1988 had the JH engine, I believe all the A1 Cabriolets also had the JH. All A2 Golf's had hydraulic lifter heads.

We are using this to gather info and get alot of eyes checking for facts. Bill you are right, I will change the Scirocco back to the smaller size. This why I want the group to see this. I would have bet money the Scirocco had the big one and I am "VW expert" oh well. I think alot of shop manuals don't call out throttle body bore sizes. There is just not one official place to look up the sizes for all cars so we will gather the info the best we can and have have everyone try and catch the mistakes.
Thanks Chuck Mathis

HP Rabbit GTI should be small, too, correct? Not sure re the Cabrios, did they have big throttle bodies post CIS?

FP 1.6 A1 gets the big one via PCS line, but FP 1500 does not (at least in the January 2012 PCS).
