for the smallest gaps aluminum tape seems to work well.

I am going to agree with the engineer on this one. Using something designed from the start to be fire and solvent resistant is the best choice to seal the compartment.

BUT, because "rules" i might foam one side and use aluminum tape on the other to satisfy the "metal" requirement...
